Diagnosed the day before her 28th birthday, cancer may have postponed Dana Donofree's wedding, took both of her breasts and put her through grueling treatments, but it also gave her a new passion and her small business.
Donofree battled the actual cancer and treatment part of the deal like a warrior, but she was totally unprepared for the “new normal;” the life that came AFTER the doctors gave the all clear and sent her forth into her brave new world. With all she had been through, it was her own bras that nearly took her down. NONE of them fit, and the ones that were available to her were glorified sports bras. Donofree was devastated, frustrated and felt powerless.
One to never settle for anything, she figured, "If I can’t find a gorgeous, sexy, comfortable bra that fits my new body, I am going make one."
With a fashion background and strong business acumen she started AnaOno Intimates, (AnaOno.com), the ONLY lingerie line exclusively for women who’ve had breast cancer-related surgeries.
Today Donofree is on the precipice of launching that line with bras for every occasion from everyday errands to black tie affairs. And it won't end there.
The young survivors she met through treatment and support groups were such a big part of her own recovery, Donofree knew she had to give back to the sisterhood of warriors that came before and after her.
AnaOno donates a portion of all proceeds to breast cancer charities that empower and support women going through their own cancer journey, and is planning to hold events to celebrate, nurture and remind women of their beauty and their own “new normal.”
In May 2014, AnaOno hosted an event to benefit Jill’s Wish, a charity that provides women with financial assistance during treatment and recovery. And that is just the beginning. Because with AnaOno, women with cancer are NEVER ALONE.
